Ever since Sawyer was seen reading Watership Down on the beach, Lost fans have sought out every book to make an appearance on the show. But now with well over 50 titles having been featured, it’s hard to keep up. And what about the myriad of books on subjects relevant to Lost (such as the required readings for Lost University)? Would a book on the science of time travel, the philosophy of John Locke or the theories of B.F. Skinner enrich your viewing experience during the final season? Probably. But where to begin? And that’s not even mentioning the many books about Lost itself? How are you supposed to know whether Living Lost, Finding Lost or The Meaning of Lost are worth your time?
The good news is The Loophole librarians (who are neither mean nor ugly by the way) have sorted through all the Lost resources out there and chosen a cross-section of titles they recommend you check out. They’ve grouped the books into subject areas relevant to Lost, (philosophy, mathematics, religion, etc.), literature as seen in Lost, (science fiction, modern fiction, classics, etc.) and books written specifically for the fans (Lost Ate My Life, etc.). Then they got a little carried away with their creativity and named each grouping something cute that is bound to annoy people (e.g. the modern fiction books are under the category “Believing Ben’s Stories”). But they wouldn’t be librarians if they weren’t agitating someone.
Don’t hesitate to email the head librarian at theloopholelostfurm@yahoo.com if you need some help choosing your next book. She’s doesn’t bite and she’d be more than happy to take the guesswork out of further Lost study for you.
