The Ballad of Jack and Kate

“Be patient Rose, we’ll be ready for the freighter. I’ll propose to Kate, sorry to the Skaters…” —lyrics from The Ballad of Jack and Kate by The Others Lost Band

The Others Lost Band not only earns points for their willingness to take shots at shippers, they also score with brilliant song titles such as Dharmaville Party, The Monster and Never Say Never Dude.

The band has written a song to honor every episode in Lost seasons 4 and 5 and most episodes from season 3. While watching the show, Shannon Purcell, the band’s songwriter takes notes and listens closely for lines that might make a good hook or chorus. He then takes the lyrics to the band (Blake Girndt—multi-instrumentalist/recording engineer, Gabe Sullivan—vocals, Eric Lee—violin and Thomas Foster—Bass) and over the following days they flesh out an arrangement and record the song.

Their CD featuring songs from all the episodes in season 5 was released this past August  and many of the new tunes are so catchy they’re liable to get stuck in your head for hours. Best part: The lyrics come in a nifty little “Faraday journal.”

Those who can’t hack it at a regular four-year institution usually end up taking classes at a local community college. So, if you’re not sure you have what it takes to succeed at Lost University this semester, perhaps you’re better suited for student life at Oceanic Community College. Apparently it’s not just for slackers.

In “The Incident” Jacob was seen reading Everything That Rises Must Converge just before Locke fell out of a window behind him. Roxanna Bikadoroff, the artist who illustrated the cover of the book, was ever so kind and agreed to let these earrings be created with her artwork on the front. Earrings were made by Boombox Bindery.

Flannery O’Connor chose her book’s title based on the work of French philosopher and Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Chardin came up with the “Omega Point” theory, which says that the universe is evolving toward ever higher complexity and consciousness and it can only evolve this way if it is being drawn higher by some supreme points. Hence, the Omega Point is something that exists independent of the evolving universe—something that is transcendent. In other words, the universe will eventually be drawn into the Omega Point, whatever that point may be. Chardin believed it was Christ himself.
